independent housing with support services
(Also known as Supportive Housing or Retirement Living)
Independent living is designed for seniors who are functionally independent and capable of directing their own lives. Residents live independently in private suites with locking door. Amenities, activities and services are provided such as meals, emergency response system, housekeeping services and social/recreational opportunities. Supports vary by housing provider and are either included in monthly rent or available on a fee-for-service basis. In general, the housing is friendlier to older adults, often being more compact, with easier navigation and no maintenance or yard work to manage. Since independent living facilities are aimed at seniors who need little or no assistance with activities of daily living, most do not offer on site nursing staff but this support can be independently arranged. Contact the residence directly to book a tour.
