When you need help at home, the first step is to contact Interior Health Authority, Home Health services to assess your needs. You do not need a Doctor’s referral to access most Home Health services – you may refer yourself or be referred by a family member / friend.
The goals of Home Health Services:
Cost
Some of the subsidized services provided by Home Health are free. Others have a fee, which may depend on your income. There may be a cost for some equipment or supplies. To access these services, you must agree to a financial assessment which will determine your rate.

- Support clients to stay independent in their homes as long as possible
- Help clients at home to prevent hospital admission and/or reduce hospital stay
- Help clients who can no longer be supported in their homes to access assisted living and residential care services
- Support people nearing the end of life, and their families

Case Managers arrange for community care services and help with the transition between home, assisted living and residential care. They may also refer you to other services in the community. Case Managers can set up services like home support, respite, adult day services as well as waitlist clients for subsidized assisted living and residential care.
Home Support Services
Home Support Services help promote independence for adults with chronic health conditions, disabilities or terminal illness and help provide caregivers with rest and relief. People who need assistance managing personal health care needs at home can be assessed by a case manager. Home support services are designed to supplement and not replace the skills and resources that you, your loved ones and your friends provide.
NOTE: Home support services do not help with housekeeping, cooking or transportation.
Home support workers can assist with the following tasks:
Respite Services
Respite services are all about caring for the caregivers, the people who give tirelessly of themselves to look after a family member or friend. Respite services come in various forms including: Adult Day Services, Home Support (in-home) or short terms stays in a facility or hospice.
Adult Day Services
Adult Day services give caregivers a break but also offer personal care, recreation and social activities for people who are still living at home and may be at risk of losing their independence.
