In the last year, the South Okanagan Seniors Wellness Society (SOSWS) has gone through a progressive transformation with new faces and new outreach programming in order to ensure that seniors, especially those who are isolated and vulnerable, have access to non-medical outreach community supports.

Though the Seniors Symposium has been cancelled for 2012, it is our intent that it will be reinstated in 2013 as the South Okanagan Seniors Wellness Society’s annual fundraising event.  We recognize that without you, there would not be a Symposium.  We thank each and every exhibitor who participated in this amazing event and has made it a success over the past 20 years.

At the March 5th, 2012 Council meeting, Penticton City Council approved a one-time additional $10,000.00 over and above our annual allotment if the SOSWS can raise the matching dollars.  We are thrilled that City Council has provided this opportunity and that our matching dollar amount is now reduced to $8,450.00 through the generosity of community donors.

We are asking for your financial support that will contribute to the return of the Seniors Symposium in 2013 and to support our outreach programs under the ‘Seniors Outreach & Community Supports Services’ model as follows:

Friendly Visitor/Tele Friend (screened visitor volunteers provide weekly one on one visits and/or telephone calls to isolated and vulnerable seniors)

Elder Abuse Prevention Workshops (provision of community workshops & resources on elder abuse issues, recognition and prevention)

Seniors Information & Referral Services – (‘One Stop Shop’ information & referral supports)

Seniors Support Program – (one on one supports to assist seniors with filling out forms, conduct assessment of referral needs and first contact support, provide assistance for seniors and/or their families to ‘navigate the system’ when accessing services)

Caring Connections – (provision of workshops to businesses, non-profits, community at large to recognize if their senior clients, patrons, neighbours, etc. are at risk or are experiencing self-neglect and where to refer these concerns)

Monthly Interest Sessions – (provision of monthly learning sessions for our program volunteers as well as a monthly session for all seniors on a topic of interest)

If you choose to make a donation, you will receive the following:
a tax deductible Charitable receipt ($25.00 and over) to be used for income tax purposes with donations of $200.00 or more, your company’s organization will be recognized for its contribution through our website, newsletter, Facebook page, local newspapers and through marketing and promotions efforts for the 2013 Seniors Symposium.
